Types of Housing and Care Options available to Seniors.
Independent Living
A community, typically an apartment or condo setting with age requirements. Most communities offer meals, activities, social events, transportation and care options.
Assisted Living Community
Includes a combination of housing and personalized supportive services. Assistance may include medication management, assistance with activities of daily living, personal care, meals, laundry, and housekeeping.
Memory Care
Facilities offer secure rooms and common living areas with specialized programs and care, specifically designed to meet the needs of residents with Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
Licensed to provide health care managing complex and serious medical problems and also providing short-term rehabilitation stays after a hospital visit.
Respite Care
A short-term stay after an illness, hospital stay, skilled nursing facility stay or when a caregiver is not available for a short time. These typically are for a few days to a few weeks and mostly take place in an Assisted Living Facility.
Home Care
Takes place in the seniors home. Usually involves weekly to daily visits from a caregiver. Services can range from simple household duties, to helping the senior with dressing, bathing, cooking, shopping and companionship.
